If Trump wins, there will be efforts to blame Russian interference or the Harris campaign or Biden, etc. That's all fair. But we need to be clear eyed that a huge swath of America likes what Trump is selling. Transphobia. Mass deportation. That's what he ran on. And here we are.
I also think sexism may prove to be a big reason why.
@aaron.rupar And a huge swath is willfully disinformed.
Or they will overlook virtually anything as a result of sexism/racism/combined.

@aaron.rupar

i would add Judge Merchan and Merrick Garland to this list

his Federal prosecution should have started 18 months sooner, and his NY sentencing should be done

That’s the part that makes me the most sad.
and normalization of racism. And that most people think fascism is not that bad.

Failure in education.
That’s what makes me the saddest.
@aaron.rupar that's clearcat this point regardless of who wins

@aaron.rupar There's a part of me that wants to look in a mirror and tell myself that we, as a people and a country, deserve this. Maybe we don't. But the misery, the fear, the chaos... over 40% of people have voted to inflict this on the nation. Have we failed as a democracy? A society?

I guess we'll know soon enough, but either way, I'll never forget this terrible day. After four years of misery, I got to see all these people begging for a four-year rerun of American Apprentice. I feel shame.

@aaron.rupar Yup. He appears to be more popular now than before his rape conviction, his clear and rapid mental decline, his numerous other trials for other acts of corruption...he may be one of the worst people in the USA, but he is genuinely very popular, and the fact that this is probably both cause and effect of intervention by oligarchs both here and abroad is somewhat moot.
