I don't like to talk about politics on this account. There comes a point where we must. 4 days before the most important election in #US history is one of them. I would've liked to have posted this sooner, but I really didn't want to cut into my already disrupted October plans.

I have to post this now.

I think it's obvious at this point that I support Kamala Harris and the Democrats in this election, and I think it's obvious why, as a #queer and #disabled #transgender #furry, I would support the party that has given people like me more protections over the one that has openly tried to go after them.

I need not remind people of the years we've spent fighting against Republicans on #GayMarriage, #TransRights, #Disability protections like the #ADA, Pro-Choice issues even beyond abortion and #BodyModification into #BodilyAutonomy in general, and claims that #furries are trying to "put litterboxes in school #bathrooms."

This thread is not about any of those things.

READ ON.

What I need to talk about is the many, MANY other reasons why I support Kamala #Harris and the #Democrats, during this particular #election cycle.

People will be angry at me for doing this, I'm probably about to torch some followers in every space, but I am compelled to write this simply because I know I will regret it if I don't: if I can get anyone who is on the fence to go out and VOTE, or ger their friends to vote, that is what I need to do.

I encourage people to read this if they can't think of many good reasons beyond talking about her opponent's faction and their plans. We don't have enough pro-Harris argumentation in the space.

#2020Election #USpol #US

First off, the #porn-and-#shitpost-#writer is going to talk about #democracy and #FreeSpeech. Who'd've thunk it?

Kamala Harris has shown repeatedly that she is a supporter of #FreedomOfSpeech, openly praising the "courage" and affirming the #rights of #protestors at her own rallies. While I'd like more from her, this is a sharp contrast from her opponents, who talk openly about shooting people who disagree with them, even their own party members.

We should oppose the people who endlessly use the #FirstAmendment as an excuse when challenged on the very foundation of the bigoted things they say, but fall silent when others are silenced.

These are the people who oppose real and serious #censorship measures, like #KOSA. These are the people who we can pressure when they don't.

...and let's be clear, it will get a lot harder to even publish #queer #erotica, or any #SexPositive and #Feminist literature under that regime.

Harris and the Democrats will protect that.

Second, let's wade into the weeds: let's talk the #IsraeliPalestinianConflict.

I don't talk about this one at all here, because a thousand dead civilians in #Israel, and 40,000 dead civilians in #Palestine is honestly a disturbing subject. It's no question as to why it is so heated: the death toll is rising, and #Netanyahu has no plans of bringing the #hostages home.

I think what I just said should make it clear, I have been a detractor of the Netanyahu regime since he came to power in the 2000s, believe strongly that a #TwoStateSolution and an end to the #aphartheid is the only path to real #peace, and believe the massive death-toll to be an attempt at #genocide by the #Israeli government.

This does NOT excuse those using this as a vessel for #antisemitism: they have no place in this discussion, where Jewish voices (like #JewsForPeace) should be at the forefront, and #antisemites are voting for the other guy anyway.

Let's talk about Harris on that though...

(5/?) #IsraeliPalestinianConflict continued...

I myself have been incredibly frustrated with the lack of more sweeping efforts by the Biden administration as I see the same news as everyone else. While the efforts at bringing in aid, limiting weaponry, and trying to force Netanyahu to the negotiation table have been enough to keep me from calling him "#GenocideJoe", I am sick of the huge ask to just be patient.

I have been absolutely horrified, however, by the calls by Republicans to "bounce the rubble" on #Palestinian children, and even inviting #Netanyahu, after being indicted for #WarCrimes, to speak before Congress...

...a speech which 2/3rds of Democrats refused to attend.

Kamala Harris has been calling for a #ceasefire since late last year, and has become far more aggressive than Biden, despite still stopping short of concrete measures. With the assassination of Sinwar, I see #peace on the horizon.

(Not done with this bit, but 1000 characters can't express it all)

(6/?) #IsraeliPalestinianConflict continued...

I won't tell you Kamala Harris is going to give us the #CeasefireNow we've been asking for, I can't even be sure she will actually give us more than a mild de-escalation. What I can tell you is that she will not allow #Netanyahu to aquire larger munitions for his relentless #genocide-by-#bombing, nor will she allow him to expand it into the #WestBank as her opponents have proposed.

What I can also tell you is that she will not go after the #marginalized groups which have always been crucial to the effort to end the Israeli #aphartheid over #Palestine, an action by which her opponents would pretty much kill her movement, even before their calls to have us shot.

With Kamala Harris, we will see no escalation, and will instead see some level of de-escalation, something desperately needed at this time, and we will be able to keep fighting for what we don't get. That is why so many Palestinians (and Jews) have endorsed her on this.

...and on the note of the Israel thing, let's move on to #antisemitism, and #racsim in general.

There is a VERY serious problem, in this country, of people #stereotyping others based entirely on demographics. Too many people in the #US do not understand that you cannot make any assumption about a person based on #SkinColor alone, let alone the complex relationship between #Jewish people, who have suffered 1000s of years of #persecution, and #Israel, a country they see as a last safe-haven in events like the #holocaust.

Tossing aside the stark contrast in expanding protections for #marginalized groups, as opposed to totally ending them, the way people in prominent positions speak plays a lot into this.

Harris's talk of unity, looking past our differences, of accepting each other as #Americans and #Human beings, is exactly what we need a leader to do right now. Contrast with her opponents saying despicable things like "Jews will be to blame".

...and let's talk about the outcome of all this rhetorical difference. It is no coincidence that we saw an increasing wave of open bigotry and attacks on Civil rights over the past decade, that we saw an increase in violent #crime - especially #MassShootings - after the mere existence of the first #black president drove these people haywire, or that #misinformation and other destructive political strategies became so thoroughly normalized, all of which SKYROCKETED in 2015 and 2016, when a certain someone first ran for president on a platform of division and violent rhetoric.

Harris's opponents literally convinced a 13 year old boy in #Georgia to spend a year planning to shoot up his school last month, simply because "#transgender people have too many rights".

There's a reason these mass-shooters aren't Democrats.

Harris's reach-across-the-aisle talk, as much as I see it frustrating the Left, is what we need to cool the political violence in this country.
