The House of the Devil was "elevated horror" before that term existed, let alone got run into the ground. And IMO, it's one of the better examples of such. It's a slow burn that hits the spot, a very simple movie that sets out to do one thing very well and does it. There's a reason why Ti West became a big name in horror since this came out.
