Chief Futurist Nikolas Badminton of futurist.com about fostering agency in #dataprotection. Zukunftsberatung wäre vielleicht auch bei der #digitalisierungsstrategie in Deutschland eine interessante Aufgabe;)
„Training Data for the next round of misinformation“ is forseen to become „interesting“. Data is growing and going much faster than today, how are we going to manage? Question your past. Shift your mindset from what is to what if. Ask the right questions and think about the implications. Messages from the futurist Nikolas Badminton

Bestselling author Douglas Kruger - with a winning dark voice - informed about the origins of „the individual“. „Show me the utopian society that has been built on suppression and harm? Guess it all boils down to the term society. What would #DavidGraeber /#DavidWengrow say?
If people talk about „public“ and „private“ accounts, I wonder, who is aware that there is no such thing as a truly private account on social media, unless it is end-to-end encrypted
#BigSister is watching you and personalising the information you see

Would you give your name, location, fingerprint

#DataProtection protects people. Applying the rules and principles is about respect and dignity.

Massimo Marelli of red cross about the importance of data protection in light of crises.

Around 5 - 6 % of world population identify as Indigenous People. The panel discusses the implications and thresholds the communities face in #dataprotection. Often, processing, even statistical outcomes, causes harm.
Recognition of indigenous people in all aspects is key and they must be included in the conversation. Misinformation is a problem. The discussion stresses, that data protection as a human right must include/recognize and safeguard the rights of minorities
What I myself must remember from time to time is, that consent and the other legal basis are not a given in many parts of the world. Indigenous experts basically ask for rights and principles enshrined in the #gdpr and acknowledgment of their culture.
In the EU we (privileged majority) often forget to appreciate the freedom we enjoy and the opportunities we can deploy to acknowledge minorities
Another day starts at the Global Privacy Assembly #GPA2024

A challenging task: Recognising diversity and countering inequalities requires the collection of data. Researching and analysing abuse in various forms is dependent on the collection of sensitive information. Without trust, this task will fail. Effective data protection is indispensable. Is legislation enough? It needs a cultural shift that includes a mind shift to recognise #dataprotection as an equal human right
The supervisory data protection authorities invest a lot in teaching (educate, engage, empower) children. This is certainly important, but it is at least as important to use resources and powers to stop deceptive and persvasive practices of organisations on the Internet

How can we use data/devise sharing to empower and not to harm people?
Question to the all commissioners’ panel at #GPA2024 on Accessible Privacy: Protecting the disabled, vulnerable and socially marginalised in a digital world
No data sharing no AI - but need it be personal?

Can a data trust be a long term solution for sharing data responsibly?

Well, how to ensure that this third party gaining access to an immense amount of data on individuals cannot turn against the individual eg giving access to insurance companies, gov/police or secret services ?

I have many questions

Can certification and labels for #ConnectedCars provide sufficient privacy and data protection?
More honesty needed by car manufacturers on how collected data is used, eg whether sold to ensurance companies.
Debate on Data Minimisation: Is the principle an absolut one and therefore a relict or a relative one and thus providing safeguards against uncontrolled use.
Good point: Data minimisation is rather a matter of efficiency and thus a double win

@privacyDE nodds in agreement

I mean there are some "private accounts" but none of the big social media do support that because it's inherently antithetical to their business model!
