A woman killed on #OregonCoast #Hwy101 yesterday across from #LincolnCityCityHall & McKays grocery was reportedly the wife of a McKays employee. She was using a #microMobility device, with a USPS van onscene. One passerby inexplicably stereotyped the #bicycle saying, "Looks like a homeless person." The husband was there & yelled, "Don't you stop!" as medics ended CPR. Drivers regularly speed here & #LincolnCityOR persists in neglecting to hold & hear a #BicycleAdvisoryCommittee. #TrafficViolence

Note that #LincolnCountyOR does have a #BikePedAdvisoryCommittee. But it meets only 4X a year in Newport. The only city in the county with its own #bicycle advisory cmte is also #Newport.

Along with advising on walking & cycling as transportation, committees advise on #busTransit use, since people walk & bike to the bus on #Oregon #ODOT hwys. They also ensure that cities & police depts are capturing crash data on #micromodes, & use bike funds on biking. #ORleg #ActiveTransportation #VisionZero

When meeting monthly, those committees also help report things that #PublicWorks departments are somehow in the dark about, like their crosswalk lights are burnt out, or the buttons won't work, like the crosswalk button that was broken right at Lincoln City's City Hall & Public Works Department building for weeks earlier this year. It is now fixed, but that is a crucial bit of transportation infrastructure to leave broken for so long.
