The scope of application of some of the most privacy invasive provisions of the draft UN Cybercrime treaty is expanded well beyond cyber-dependent crimes, making it one of the most far-reaching treaties in criminal matters and international cooperation on criminal investigations.
The draft treaty draft is unbalanced, as the risk of abuses that its broad scope entails is not mitigated by adequate human rights safeguards.
The draft UN Cybercrime treaty is dangerous because it will make digital communications more vulnerable to the cybercrimes that the treaty is meant to address.
States should vote no when the draft UN Cybercrime treaty is considered for adoption by the UN General Assembly in the coming weeks ❌
