Hen in the Fox House: Jorge Velázquez and Ramiro González Better Served Democracy than Bret Baier - emptywheel

Bret Baier's interview of Kamala Harris was probably only the third most important TV yesterday. On Univision, before a viewing audience that includes far more undecided swing voters, Trump refused to answer three questions few journalists have ever asked him, including why he did nothing as his rioters attacked the Capitol and how mass deportation will lead food prices to rise.

@emptywheel the most important read of the day. I know it’s early. But thank you. This article is so good.
@emptywheel Marcy, thank you for covering what corporate media does not cover.
@emptywheel another astonishing example, even by Fixed Noise standards, of well-funded terrorist org speaking to an #AudienceOfOne
@emptywheel boosted because this is by miles the best headline on this topic 👍

Ex-president of Univision Joaquin Blaya on MSNBC said it was an infomercial not a town hall, that DT "went on to recite his concert of lies without any journalism fact checking" and wasn't asked about things he's repeatedly said, like "we are poisoning the blood of this country…" & his deportation& mass incarceration plans. Blaya thought Jorge Ramos would've been doing the interview if network "was serious about conducting this in a journalistic manner"

'It was an infomercial': Former Univision president slams Trump town hall

Former President Trump held a town hall Wednesday with Univision as part of his campaign’s attempted outreach to Hispanic voters. During the town hall, Trump repeated his false claims about migrants. Former Univision president Joaquin Blaya joins Morning Joe to share his thoughts about the town hall.

@emptywheel With regards to the comment on “illegal immigration”, I wish that Harris and others would explain OFTEN that if an immigrant requests asylum, they’re not illegal at that moment. But their case must be investigated and adjudicated, and there aren’t enough judges to do so quickly, nor any place to house them while they wait. So, 2 choices: We either violate international law by deporting a possibly rightful asylum seeker, or we release them pending their hearing. No?

@emptywheel

Judging from the comments I've seen on Youtube, the botiverse/magaverse not only didn't notice any criticisms of Trump in any useful way, they immunized themselves before they viewed the interview, and are trying to turn perception their way after.

If I were Harris, I'd be saying she chose not to be combative despite Baier's network having become a fascist bar. I'd be following up by connecting Baier's interruptions of her in the interview with Trump's interruptions of women. It's sexist, it's fascistic, and it's un-American, or should be.

@emptywheel thank you for covering this. It’s necessary.
