It's #GlobalEncryptionDay!

Time to remind everyone that a backdoor "for the good guys only" is simply not possible.

By demanding encryption backdoors, politicians are not asking us to choose between security and privacy. They are asking us to choose no security. πŸ‘‡

Global Encryption Day: Any backdoor would do more harm than good.

By demanding encryption backdoors, politicians are not asking us to choose between security and privacy. They are asking us to choose no security.

Tutanota
@Tutanota but u have nothing to hide if u arent a criminyal
@chloe @Tutanota In some parts of the world, being trans is a crime.
@emmy @Tutanota ik that i should probably have made it clear that its me quoting zentrist ppl snd making fun of them
@emmy @Tutanota @chloe In some parts of the world fixing your DVD player is a crime.
@Tutanota the scariest group of all...... etc. .........
@Tutanota nobody can keep a secret anymore. The whole world knows George Costanza ATM pin number.

@Tutanota

Call me pedantic but this symbolically states that only Apple and FBI will be able to use that back door.

@hp @Tutanota
Interesting. Could you unpack why you read it that way? Because the closest I can come to that reading is that they're waiting in line behind the user & the FBI.

@FeralRobots @Tutanota

But look at the size of that door! No way anyone but the first two are going to squeeze through.

@hp @FeralRobots @Tutanota their arms will fit.
@nske @hp @Tutanota
They do all seem to have unnaturally small arms for their sizeπŸ€” ....
@Tutanota Yes, thank you for sharing this! I rely on your email service and greatly appreciate your privacy and security.
@Tutanota any backdoor is a bad door πŸ˜‰
GrapheneOS for the win!
@Tutanota β€œIt’s not that I have anything to hide. It’s just that I dont trust your intentions/opsec with my data”
@Tutanota thanks from a Chinese youth
@Tutanota you simply can't but controlled selective access into math. It's as simple as that.
@Tutanota think globally, encrypt locally
@Tutanota @shawnhooper People believe they are the hero of their own story. So they believe they can solve problems, if only they had access to the data. However, this kind of power is easy to abuse. Instead people need to consider β€œwhat if my enemy had this power over me?” Would they still believe it’s a good idea? i think not. This applies equally well to software as well as the law. The best thing we could do to protect everyone is build strong encryption into everything
#security #Software
@Tutanota I am pretty sure that Rupe, Zuck and Elon are the β€œEtc.”
@Tutanota What's the image? The alt text just continues the post
@Tutanota This cartoon is clever, but it presumes the FBI isn't also the hackers (for example FBI agents using surveillance tools to check out prospective dates, family, etc.) and the repressive regime
@Tutanota
Why "hackers"? Why not "cyber criminals"?
You should've known better...

@Tutanota > "They are asking us to choose no security."

They are asking us to choose slavery.

@Tutanota Does the Tuta paid tier have pop3 / smtp access? I prefer using pgp instead of e2e apps, and I need to receive some unencrypted mails via Thunderbird.
@crypto No, sorry. In Tutanota all data is encrypted. We could not promise this if we allowed people to get it to Thunderbird - where it might not be encrypted (depending on your level of knowledge).
@Tutanota False!
You are not Tutanota.
You are Tuta
Tuta is far ahead of the rest : once you've adopted it, you'll never go back !
@Tutanota where an ox passes a herd passes
@Tutanota in what fucking world the FBI is considered "the good guys"

- posted by otter
@Tutanota they cant even fit in the fucking door bro

@Tutanota In some ways, it doesn't matter. Those who grew up with computers that had no security because it just wasn't an issue, have never expected a situation where someone wasn't snooping on what was being transmitted back and forth.

Those who believe their communications are rendered private by apps, etc are just deluded and not paying attention.

@Tutanota
I thought the Israelis had already developed a system that can penetrate a locked iPhone - once you're 'in', encryption is not a lot of good.
@Tutanota in cyberspace all doors are front doors
@Tutanota Exactly this! It's like handing someone the keys to millions of houses.
