A #GT3 Mustang in the #IMSA #GTD class, as taken by a manual focus catadioptric (mirror) lens. Tokina SZX 400mm on a #Nikon D810 @ 1/50th f/8 ISO 160. #IndianapolisMotorSpeedway
@sam ngl this is kinda making me want a mirror lens
@bhtooefr hard to top $220 for 400mm of reach! I took about 1700 photos and got maybe a couple dozen keepers though so maybe not the best use case for a manual focus, fixed aperture lens. But still a fun, niche challenge!

@sam yeah, I was thinking manual focus would be… challenging for motorsports

although Minolta did do a couple of autofocus mirror lenses (and both can be adapted to modern Sony bodies with working autofocus it seems)…

@bhtooefr I'm of the opinion that this is the golden age of the cheap super telephoto lens. Even if it's a run of the mill variable aperture 100-400mm or 150-600mm... The former can go for less than 500$ used and the latter, at least the 1st gens, around 600$. Not bad for lenses that debuted at $1200-1400 in the case of the 150-600mms. But those zooms are quite a thing to lug about vs the catadioptric lenses. Try one out! Mine is in T-Mount so it's completely adaptable.
