Well hello reality! Monday my life changed dramatically. I was diagnosed diabetic, started on meds, given a rough idea how to eat, prescribed the most basic supplies to monitor my blood sugar and set loose to figure it all out.

I am not a fan.

However, I need some new connections, I do better when I have support so...

@Quilty
Bummer. Sounds like familiar territory though.

My day starts with a small handful of pecans. They have a very low glycemic index and help stabilize my blood sugar for what I eat next. Just about any nut variety would do the same.

@stargazersmith I try to practice gratitude, and truly I am grateful for a diagnosis from a well-care visit than a diagnosis from a major complication in hospital stay.
@Quilty well crap. Not going to have relevant info for you, but I’m nonetheless sending support šŸ’ššŸ«‚
@inarticulatequilter appreciated my friend. ā¤ļø
@Quilty Oh that sucks! As a relatively recent convert to the Church of Wilford Brimley myself I agree it is 0% fun
@Quilty I know how hard that is. I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic early this year. Improved diet, exercise, and weight loss improved my numbers by a lot. I'm hoping you can get some support to figure it all out. Hugs to you!
@lisamakesstuff Thank you. I'm actually suspected that my sugars were wrong, out of whack for a few months so this really isn't a surprise but it is a definite reality check.
@Quilty A qualified dietician or nutritionist might be able to help you plan for your nutritional needs to help you improve your blood sugar. I hope there's one in your area, or someone you can contact online.

@lisamakesstuff I'm not worried about nutrition, I understand enough of the basics. I'm mostly impatient, wanting to know exactly what will spike my blood sugar without the tedious trial and error required to figure out what works for me.

I figured out after last night's indulgent handful of cashews, that there's not enough fiber to keep the cashews from spiking my blood sugar. So it's not a good snack by itself, if I want to eat cashews I need you incorporate them into something else.
