Surprise, surprise, CalTrans' own video simulation of what the Gilman cycle track was supposed to look like is ... no longer available on their website.

With the shortening days, the bike hazard at 2nd & Gilman is getting more dangerous. The southwest corner has a curb cut that is lined up for the pedestrian crossing, but nothing for the crossing from the 2 way bike lane. Bicycle riders going west have to swerve over to the left to use the pedestrian ramp - which then has them running right into a metal fence corner. The most serious hazard about this is that, in the dark, it is a very unexpected move and very poorly lit. This morning in the dark, my wife only noticed at the very last minute that there was not a cut in the expected place in the middle of the corner across from the end of the bike lane. If she had hit that double curb and gone down on that poorly lit street where cars blast out around a curve from the expressway exit, it could have been a fatal accident. The corner needs a second curb cut for the bicycle traffic. In the meantime, the crossing needs a green painted lane going across 2nd to guide cyclists over the slalom turn that they need to make to safely mount the walk at the pedestrian cut.
