the problem with EU freedom of movement rights is that EU member states find it annoying when EU citizens exercise their rights to EU freedom of movement which means they're disinclined to talk about EU freedom of movement rights which as a result means nobody actually knows what anyone's EU freedom of movement rights are

like, the EU commission has a great pamphlet on it (https://op.europa.eu/en/publication-detail/-/publication/51cf67c4-a4ed-44a6-93cf-8120a7aa4c08) but the only people reading it are people who are already aware of and want to confirm the details surrounding their rights

it's all very frustrating

EDIT: in case you're interested in this, there's also Your Europe Advice, a non-profit of EU rights lawyers working for the EU commission to answer questions about your EU rights free of charge. They will give you a detailed answer within one week of contact https://europa.eu/youreurope/advice/index_en.htm

Cries in American stuck living in the UK
@MxVerda so many americans i know with dual UK citizenship were so screwed over by brexit :/

@eniko oh. Yeah I need to get around to uk citizenship at some point.

Fucking eVISA bullshit may make me technically undocumented as of January.

The Home Office sent me an email about making my BRP invalid.
(as, of course, my uk born citizen friends tell me would never happen, when I told them years ago I expected this. They’re cynical and poor too btw. Idk how this is even a question?)

So I tried to make the stupid account online, on the second reminder email that made me realise it wasn’t a scam or joke.
(Context: used to work in IT support, effectively. I know how to look at help menus, user forums, spam folders, etc.)

Couldn’t do it. Used their contact form. Got an email saying I can’t make an account because my address is not on the list to be notified about it yet.

Their ‘support’ message happened to originate from a no-reply email address, because of fucking course it did.

.

I especially love one Brit in particular, but holy hell, their country is trying to kill me in so many ways. Their people ignore it and accuse me of insanity, cruelty, idiocy and more whenever I literally repeat what my evidence-documented experience is.

I don’t even care about the misgendering. Just give me my new BRP. Put gender ‘M’ for all it makes a difference in my daily life.

Just acknowledge that the systems in place are fucking stupid but also working precisely as intended:
demoralise foreigners and hype up brits so they don’t notice life has gone to worse shit than before neoliberalism / conservatism-in-disguise.
