I'm restarting my new/favourite #HarryPotter #Fanfic thread here, since #BirdSite is well, that... Let's start with this incredible thing, which is keeping me so engrossed that I cannot put it down, other than to type this. I will add to the thread with subsequent reads, and perhaps some old favourites.

Harry Potter and the GUI - Chapter 1 - samhaine - Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling [Archive of Our Own]

An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works

@FreakyFwoof I am going to be reading this one. it sort of sounds like one I have read most of called Harry Potter and the Game of Life by Abadashery. summary: Harry's plan to let Voldemort kill him has backfired as there was no Horcrux in his head. Instead Fate is one grumpy deity and decides that if Harry wants to play games well then she'll give him a game to play. A fresh attempt on the Life is a Game genre! Powerful!Harry. Fling!Harry Work in Progress! Rewrite of Chapters 21 and 22 in progress. Stay tuned!
sadly it looks like it has been abanded as there hasn't been an update sense 12/16/2020.

@jamminjerry @FreakyFwoof this? https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13390029

Apparently got an update on 8th January, now 24 chapters. “Soon to be out of Hiatus”… doesn’t look it.

But it’s a romance. Oh well, I’ll give it a shot. The GUI one from Andre was truly exceptional, I hadn’t read such a good gamer story ever.

@jamminjerry hmmhmm, so that was.

I admit I’m not a fan. It begins with way too much Gamer, and especially OP¹, then proceeds to be almost not at all Gamer, and mostly romance interspersed with teenage drama, half the ages are wrong half the time, and quite some of the sentence constructs are written confusingly enough to be barely intellegible.

The point inflation is also crazy. At the beginning it said average adult wizards are level 10 except in magic where they are level 25. And yet Harry runs through levels at a ridiculous pace (like a few small transfigurations, during battle no less, give him half a dozen levels in Transfiguration) and easily gets stuff into the 70s within the first couple of weeks into this all. Compared with the entire run-time of the game, assuming Hogwarts, starting from Summer 1993 that’s about 260 weeks, this is good as nothing, the first 2% of time after the tutorial and he’s reaching such high levels… pretty unrealistic.

Also, wasn’t Lily’s red dark whereas the Weasleys’ is almost orange?

¹) example is, consuming hundreds of skillbooks in one day

tl;dr: ⅓ totally OP gamer fic, ⅔ teenage romance combined with teenage drama that totally ignores the gamer parts
