okay unironically one of the ways to counter online "subscription" services (aka SaaS - Software as a Service) is to learn how to host your own services. you don't have to go over the top with it like hosting your own netflix but you can do things like learning a bit of nginx configuration. Instead of using something like rocket money you can mess around with trying to host something like https://www.firefly-iii.org/ behind nginx. if you want to take it to the next step you can learn about things such as ZFS to make an encrypted dataset for securing that data. You don't have to go all out and make a profession out of it but by hosting a couple of services for yourself and maybe some close friends/family members you can save some money and learn a bit about sysadmin stuff in the process. Maybe you don't feel comfortable hosting financial stuff just yet, I'd recommend checking https://github.com/awesome-selfhosted/awesome-selfhosted out this list for a variety of cool software to host instead then to let you dip your toes in the water.

Want to play around with RSS feeds to aggregate your news, email lists and other things? Check out the feed reader section
https://github.com/awesome-selfhosted/awesome-selfhosted?tab=readme-ov-file#feed-readers using software like https://git.sr.ht/~cedric/newspipe there's so many little gems like that in this list you can play around with as a convenience thing.

genuinely i think more people should get comfortable with hosting things like newspipe and other services for themselves. it reduces the reliance on companies to provide these for you. It's also what got me into sysadmin stuff because I realized how nice it is. Writing things like docker compose files to deploy software, pricing out hardware, maintaining my servers etc.
I forgot to mention, you can setup a variety of "archival" software such as archivebox to save your favorite webpages. This is neat to have if you don’t want to throw everything on the internet archive and you just want a personal copy. There’s so many cool little tools like this that you can host at home, drastically improving your productivity. Why register for trello when you can host your own?
@puppygirlhornypost2 @lunahd I would do this a lot more too if had a job to fund it,
