To read a book in college, it helps to have read a book in high school.

A friend who after 7 years of study finally got to *properly* teach #ComparativeLit in a top Lit dept & set a course, was bemoaning the fact that the entire class prefers summaries or adaptations, & thinks reading or engaging with original texts is a waste of time. AI and assignments is the last of the concerns. Nobody wants to #read or relish anything.
@sarahf That is unfortunate. How will they able to reflect or attempt to digest literature that can amplify any type if meaning. Scrolling brief bits is the limit of an ordinary attention span now. I can see it in conversations when people quickly disengage.
