We're still going through the documents but it appears the Dutch government will "actively not support" the #CSAM #chatcontrol proposal at the European Council. Text, in Dutch, through https://berthub.eu/tkconv/get/2024D35955 "Cabinet has decided to *actively* not take a position on the proposal. This will lead The Netherlands to be considered to not support the general orientation". This also based on input from the intelligence service AIVD. /cc @echo_pbreyer
@bert_hubert how does one "actively" not do something?

@bert_hubert @echo_pbreyer

AIVD sees no point in client-side scanning because the party performing client-side scanning has full access to the device. AIVD would rather see no encryption and that the parties supply data directly without encryption.

This does not reassure me...

@bert_hubert @echo_pbreyer

@bert_hubert @echo_pbreyer You provided a somewhat misleading translation. It should say: "Therefore the cabinet has decided to abstain from taking a position and actively to make this known. The Netherlands will in this way be counted among the countries that do not support the general orientation."
So the "active" is not referring to not taking a position, but to communicating this fact.
