#Introduction
So here I am, someone who tried and failed Twitter numerous times, now attempting to get a handle on this 😂 I don't know if I'm on the right server, I guess time will tell!

I'm a #PhDStudent at #NewcastleUniversity using #animalBehaviour, #neuroscience, #physiology and #socialScience to improve #laboratory #animalWelfare (jeez that's a lotta hashtags!). 🐀

In my spare time I enjoy hunting, identifying, and sometimes even eating #fungi. I also like #photography and #baking vegan goodies 🍰

Hi welcome to the Fediverse.
Often referred to as Mastodon incorrectly, which is one of several software types (Sharkey here).
That said, Masto is quite friendly for Screen Readers.

If you want to look further afield for instances, probably the definitive guide is here:

(I use Misskey/Sharkey) you can choose software type at the top - there are several different implementations of microblogging using ActivityPub; also alternatives to YouTube etc.

If in doubt, ask - just send a "Can anyone help" post*, someone, probably several someones will respond.

No such thing as a silly question, we tend to be inquisitive in the Fediverse.

*On Masto they are often referred to as Toots due to a juvenile gag back in the mists of time (probably last friday).
Fediverse Observer checks all sites in the fediverse and gives you an easy way to find a home from a map or list or automatically.

@andy_barham Sure thing! Sadly I'm not a proper Geordie but I do live in Newcastle now. I am a mushroom hunter though! I used to be a member of Grampian Fungal Group when I lived in Aberdeen and now am a member of North East Fungus Study Group! 😊

@SophMay Sadly, I never seem to have time to go foraging for will mushrooms these days, since I moved down south. Apparently, there are some good spots in the North Shore Mountains, but finding the time to get out there always seems to be a problem! (Was easier when I lived up North: walk out the back door and into the Old Growth Rainforest.)

@SophMay I don't remember the mushroom hunting being especially great in Newcastle, when I lived there; but then, I probably wasn't look. Norway, near Stavanger was terrific though. (And Geordies have a strong connection to Norway.)
