@StephenCurry @jamswilsdon Have you seen this latest idea coming from ACS? If I understand this correctly they're proposing an "article development charge" for open access if you're not in on a "read and publish" deal. So if you're outside a R&P thing then $2500 is payable when the article is sent for peer review. Not clear to me what happens if the paper is rejected.

There is some disquiet here about this. Thoughts? Or do you know more?

@sellathechemist first reaction: you’re right to be worried!
@StephenCurry It's rather disturbing and I don't have the brains/bandwidth to really follow the various layers, discounts, exemptions and add-ons.
The good news is that I might see you soon at an elite social event south of the Thames quite soon so maybe we can chew the lentil about this.
@sellathechemist indeed. Will try to have a closer look by then.
@sellathechemist @StephenCurry Seems terrible to me - easy for those at rich institutions, otherwise πŸ‘Ž. Just has a look at the link you sent. What the hell does this mean for this jounral, and the other ACS journals ?? 🧐 🀑 😭 #Aargh #OpenScience
