One thing that really sucks about me leaving Twitter/X and losing so much of my audience and reach is that I can watch in real time the people who my generation and older in infosec all knew were abusers, harassers, and generally really dangerous people being forgotten as such, and our warnings not being passed on to the younger generation.

Those same bad dudes are absolutely noticing they're in the clear, and coming right back into the conference, X, and education spaces where they can victimize young people, especially young women. They have the age, the money, and the power to do it. It really blows.

I'm sure it's exactly what Elon wanted.

@hacks4pancakes yeah, my knowledge of who was a shitsack is frozen now, and I’m unsurprised that a number of dudes are angling for influence again.
Good news is is that at least in some spaces where people come in new to infosec, warnings can be passed on and links to back channels established. Bad news is is that we all know how many huge gaps that leaves. =\
@whereisthespai I truly do not know what to do. I talk to whole swathes of young people who have zero idea and are even about to intern for them or work at their events.
@hacks4pancakes pass on Intel to cishet white dudes that will absolutely speak up in dept all hands at other companies about it? Which, obviously, has innumerable drawbacks as well. Even in the best case, that still leaves major areas for people to just not hear. At this point, I’m recommending any newer joiners engage with this Mastodon instance and maybe Bluesky and to consider pseudonymous identity to mitigate directed harassment on account of melanin or breasts. =\
@whereisthespai @hacks4pancakes F that, do you know what I went through to get these … melanin?
@rabbit @hacks4pancakes far more than you should have had to, at what shouldn’t count as a guess.
@whereisthespai @hacks4pancakes There's a reason I live in Vermont now...
