I’m really happy that people have been finding my advice for switching password managers useful!

That said, if you’re already using a password manager, you’re in good shape. After you take care of yourself, prepare for the upcoming holidays, where you might want to help your family and friends get started with password management for the first time.

@rmondello @chrisgervais I keep telling myself I'm going to migrate, but the process seems overwhelming and possibly error prone. Maybe this method would help?
@abstractcow @rmondello Depending on how many accounts you have, you might want to migrate in phases. Start with the most frequently used accounts or that are the most sensitive. It'll force you to really pay attention and make sure everything is working properly. I’m not doing any importing into Passwords, not because I'm worried about errors but because I want to review and cleanup. It's a cold, damp day here in the Boston area so after some apple-picking (gotta make some pies) I'm back at it!
@rmondello How’s the passkey migration proposal coming along, if you’re allowed to discuss it?
@rmondello Your migration advice is very sensible, but I have a question: either because they were in the Keychain or because earlier in the beta process I triggered some import operations, my Passwords database is already pretty full, and misaligned with 1P.
Is there a way to empty it and start fresh? Or manual removal is the slow way to go?
@cdf1982 If you know for sure that everything in Passwords is non-canonical, in the All tab, select one item, then hit ⌘A, which will select all of them. Then you can delete.
@rmondello Thanks! I’ll run some checks before regretting it 😛
@rmondello what do you do about credit cards?
@adam Personally, I save my credit cards in Safari. Safari AutoFills them for me everywhere I need them. :)
@rmondello ah yeah I tried that but it was painful whenever I needed that info outside of Safari
@adam @rmondello agreed, 1Password does credit cards way better than than Safari which requires you to remember the 3 digit security code and doesn't autofill it
@rmondello There is one more thing to worth considering, Apple passwords only works on Apple ecosystem.
@rmondello made the switch a while back and it's the best decision i've made
@rmondello @siracusa @chrisgervais so happy to see that you're still at apple after finishing passkeys, and super excited that you're working on the password app. now please just add ability for secure notes, driver licenses and passports. and please improve autofill
@rmondello Thinking about switching from 1Password. Have been using it for forever and also at work. Having the 2 accounts can be cumbersome. Also, my wife can never figure it out and from what I’ve seen Passwords should be easier on her. Anyway, can you get passwords in browsers other than Safari? That’s my 1 sticking point, I think. But if there’s a Chrome extension for Passwords, I’ll probably start migration this week!
@rmondello @siracusa Last time I switched password managers, I reset each password replacing it with a new stronger password one by one as I moved each account over.
@rmondello @chrisgervais This is great advice, and I will certainly follow it as soon as Passwords provides the one thing I really miss in 1Password –exportable passkeys. Currently, creating/storing passkeys in any password manager – except for KeePassXC – feels uncomfortable (even if I can create new passkeys upon migration).
