I’ve decided “Let it go" from Disney's Frozen is both literally -and- metaphorically about coming out. In a literal sense Elsa is revealing that she's the snow queen, but metaphorically... c'mon, the song even alludes to slamming doors behind you..

@rabbit

yes, it's not a very subtle coming-of-age metaphor.

@munin Elsa is a girlkisser and no one can convince me otherwise.
@rabbit @munin so say you and an awful lot of people on the internets
@pikhq @munin I didn't say it was an original thought, heh... but after consideration, nah, I'm just saying I don't think that's accidental. It feels very much like they were steering as close to that mark as Disney would allow.
@rabbit see also "into the unknown" and "show yourself" from the second film
@tempest I have not seen the second one but I have heard they have similar vibes, yeah
@rabbit given that, aiui, it was initially planned for her to be a villain this would also fit with other traditions of queer coding in films.
@whereisthespai Aww. That's kind of sad in that light.
@rabbit I’m not sure how early in the production they switched from that plan, but that song has some themes that can definitely be turned towards discarding caring for others. But yeah, knowing the story as it was made makes that one a lot sadder.
@rabbit I had no intention of watching the movie until the far right screamed about it being lesbian propaganda
