I never saw a rainbow in a dandelion before
Whaddaya know, milkweed does it too

Zoom on the prisms
Today it's Chinese silver grass. I turned the color saturation to 100% to really emphasize the rainbow effect.
@dillyd diffraction, just a little bit
@dillyd good observation - that's diffraction, to see it here is surprising.
@dillyd wow!!! My daughter, who loves both dandy-lions (she calls dandelions dandy-lions) and rainbows, would love this photo. I will show her. Thanks a lot for capturing such a beautiful shot.
@squaremoon @dillyd Now I'm wondering how you pronounce it, if it's not dandy-lion?
@dillyd
I guess the fluff makes a kind of fraction grating. Cool isn't it?

@dillyd IΒ΄m still looking for the
Rainbow in the rose In the howling wind I first heard the voice
To be free again, it said
Find the rainbow in the rose.
@dillyd You can see a similar diffraction effect through your eyelashes, but it's a dangerous game (looking in the direction of the sun with half-closed eyes) and you can't photograph that, so this is excellent. πŸ’Œ
@dillyd such a pretty picture
@dillyd Beautiful! Thank you for showing me a new place to find rainbows! 🌈🀩
@dillyd Very nice, and yeah, a first for me too. Thanks for sharing this.
@dillyd You take the best plant photos I’ve ever seen!

@dillyd

I don't have the picture handy, but I've seen a rainbow in a fingerprint.

Diffraction is *wild*

@dillyd @Ruth_Mottram It is beautiful! However it is not a rainbow. This is iridescense: the physics is completely different from that forming a 🌈. Iridescence can sometimes be seen in some (thin) clouds.
@dillyd that is an amazing shot! ❀️🌈
oh wow, that's beautiful!
@dillyd That's amazing! πŸ’œ
@dillyd this is gorgeous! 😍
