The #Greens and their supporters are never happy.

It is not generally possible to change rent in the middle of a lease anyway, so how much does this change?

I would be happy if there is:

1. Reasonably priced, good quality housing, that everyone can afford.
2. Ownership of that housing is consistent with reasonably equal share of national wealth for all Australians.

Rules around eviction and quality are necessary along with any rent controls. But a large private rental market is just bad.

@artsrc You're assuming 1-year leases.

@mark_melbin

The key point is that Australia’s rental laws are inadequate. No one should be happy with them.

It is not a case of “when will Greens be happy”. It is a case of: “when will our rental laws contribute to the secure housing everyone deserves.”

@artsrc The key point is that rent caps/freezes are a state not a federal responsibility and the federal Greens haven’t bothered negotiating with state leaders.
