Second wave of explosions hits Lebanon a day after pager attack

Israel's defense minister declares a “new phase” of war as Hezbollah officials and Lebanon's state media say explosions went off in Beirut and multiple parts of Lebanon in an apparent second wave of detonations of electronic devices. The Hezbollah officials and state media said Wednesday that walkie-talkies and even solar equipment detonated a day after hundreds of pagers blew up. Lebanon's Health Ministry says at least 20 people were killed and 450 were wounded. Israel's defense minister made no mention of the mysterious waves of exploding devices in his remarks.

Is Israel preparing for a war with Hezbollah?

The specter of all-out combat between Israel and Hezbollah seems closer than ever before. Tensions rose sharply after Israel’s defense minister announced a “new phase” of the war and an apparent Israeli attack set off explosions in electronic devices in Lebanon. Hopes for a diplomatic solution appear to be fading quickly. Israel has signaled a desire to change the status quo in the country’s north, where it has exchanged cross-border fire with Hezbollah since the Lebanese militant group began attacking on Oct. 8, a day after the war’s opening salvo by Hamas. Israel has recently moved a powerful fighting force up to the northern border.

After exploding #pagers and #walkieTalkies, #Lebanon is on edge over #phones: 'We don’t know if our phones are safe'

In Lebanon, no electronic equipment is now considered safe. "Everyone is just panicking… We don’t know if we can stay next to our laptops, our phones. Everything seems like a danger at this point, and no one knows what to do,” one said.

This is like the "bloody horse head on the bed" scene from #TheGodfather, but on all beds.
