Has anyone read an account of the #insurrection from a #hamradio perspective? I know just part of the picture from my QTH in #southernMaryland. I know about the two repeaters that were shut down because the #proudboys and #oathkeepers were using them illegally for command and control. But has anyone seen a complete report in any of the ham radio publications about what happened on #JAN6 ?
This article is the the closest I've seen. But I'd like to read about what happened on that day. https://slate.com/technology/2022/06/far-right-extremism-radio-jan-6.html #AmateurRadio #citizenband #CB #GMRS #FRS
The Surprising Tool Far-Right Extremists Used to Coordinate the Jan. 6 Attacks

Militia groups are leaning on personal radios to organize extremist violence. The assault on the Capitol illustrates the stakes.

@wb2ifs Wait! They used amateur radio repeaters? Were they also licensed hams using their own callsigns? Just wow!
@darrell73 not sure if they were licensed. Rumor has it that they used “tactical” call signs. You’ll note the #boafeng radios in some of the videos taken on #JAN6 The word on the street is that trustees shut down two machines in northern Virginia—near the hotels used by the #terrorists that have coverage in downtown #DC. The machines were taken off the air because of the illegal, unidentified transmissions. Real reporters should follow up and confirm this.
@darrell73 the main #hamradio takeaway from #JAN6 is that the #insurrection was not a random mob thing. There were some people who had a plan and executed it. Recall the vague statements from @fcc and @arrl prior to the attack. A good investigation would identify the hams involved and how they enabled the attack. It really be interesting to see the #aprs traffic during the attack. 😉real interesting 🤨
