We need to think beyond code and just paying coders/maintainers. Sustainable projects need funding for the whole ecosystem.

Specifically the @NGIZero consortium. They not only provide funding to many grassroots projects like @librecast
We get packaging, security review, licencing and other support to keep our projects creating and improving code.

NGI recently published an article on the lack of diversity in Tech. This is partly because of the lack of funding available to the general pool of expertise in the EU. Suppose you want to continue to build the Next Generation Internet for every resident of the EU and beyond. In that case, it needs to fund people outside the social structures within the tech sector to help create a diverse ecosystem.
@EC_NGI @NGIZero @nlnet has one of the simplest accessible applications procedure in this space.
We do have a massive issue with diversity in Tech. Look to the UK with the recent #innovateuk scandal.
There's very little opportunity for community grassroots FOSS.
So we need to be vocal, and united.
