One of the great innovations of human evolution is the transmission of information via speech. "The red berries are poisonous, but the green ones are good if you boil them till they're soft", etc.

So why are so many of my work conversations like:

CW:"It doesn't work!"

Me:"Show me."

CW:"I go here, click there, and..."

Me:"You've missed out step 2 of 3."

CW:"Ooooh, right!"

CW:"It still doesn't work!"

Me:"Looks like someone has deleted all the files?"

CW:"Should I not do that?"

Me:"No."
