Days are quickly getting shorter
The number of #daylight hours are now steadily shrinking by 1 to more than 3 minutes per day depending on where you live in the Lower 48. Northern parts of the country lose daylight at a #faster #rate than southern parts. For example, #Portland, Ore., loses more than three #minutes of daylight per day through mid-#October, while #Miami loses about 1.5 minutes per day during the same period.

The change is even more dramatic in #Alaska, where #Fairbanks loses more than six minutes per day through much of November.

The #fastest loss of daylight occurs around the fall #equinox on Sept. 22. Daylight hours continue to decrease, albeit at a slower pace, until the winter solstice on Dec. 21. By then, daylight only lasts from 8 to around 10.5 hours depending on where you are in the #Lower48, and less than four hours in #Fairbanks.
