If I knew that someone was going to tweak ANY of my games, I would be totally OK with that (even delighted if I saw the future and knew it'd happen after I'm gone). I mean, obviously there are changes about representation and stuff that would make me sad.

But if we're talking about changing something like the letter pairings/frequencies in the ELL deck after a lot of judicious pondering, I'd be quite honoured by that. I have pondered my stuff a lot. But the context in which things are played - specially wordgames - changes MASSIVELY.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Alfred Butts, but given the title of his other game, I don't imagine him being a person who took themselves super-seriously. I imagine they'd be quite happy to have any changes that would increase the amount of joy that their game can spark.
