Yesterday I bought a litre bottle of gin in Edinburgh for 24.00. I know that around £11.50 of that was duty & £5.30 was vat.

It made me think where does that tax revenue go? Is it paid to the Scottish Government or does it go to UK Government? If the latter is it included in the GERS figures as tax raised in Scotland?

Does anyone know ?

@naefool I believe it goes to the WM exchequer and we get approx half of it back under Barnett.
@naefool my understanding is that it all goes to Westminster govt.

@naefool Scotland is *supposed* to get 50% of the VAT collected in Scotland, but all the excise duty goes to #WasteMonster
