Australia's supposed independent, progressive news source The Saturday Paper is really slipping. It's hired the nation's favourite right-wing pseudo-intellectual who has taken time out from questioning whether our "Cartesian duality" is still fit for purpose (seriously he wrote a column on that) to randomly bash Kamala Harris for ... whatever the right-wing press is saying, except with bigger words. Sad to see the Sat Paper going down the drain. I decided not to renew when this subscription runs out.

@dee_le_brun I read Harris’s autobiography and she definitely has a serious moral vision.
@JoCzechowska Personally, I think Stan Grant's problem is that he's just not very bright. Massive ego, but really just not that smart.
@dee_le_brun
Haters gonna hate and she is going to win big!

@dee_le_brun Stan Grant a Trumper? Gotta say I did *not* see that one comìng!!

@Bot4Sale @dee_le_brun
Always had my doubts about Stan
#auspol
@Bot4Sale His go to line is that "the left has abandoned the working class" which he kind of uses as an excuse to cosy up to anyone that isn't "left." The Trump phenomenon is much more complex - seems to be an identity-based movement of people who believe they are "blue collar real Americans" but in reality are small business owners, middle managers etc. When the Jan 6 Insurrection happened all the media were banging on about the angry working class until it came out that most of them arrived by plane, or hired buses and some live-streamed ads for their businesses from inside the capitol.
@dee_le_brun Harris has many faults but on balance is way ahead of Trump. There is a Greens Party but who even knows who their current leader is?
@RustyFreewheel @dee_le_brun Don't remember their name, but did hear some of their commentary. They don't really support Ukraine. That's their choice for sure, but I do support Ukraine - while not denying they overall hypocricy of US foreign policy. But the US are not 100% evil - more like 70%. Relating to that complexity takes some extra effort. To be sure, this is a side track, not so much to do with Grant and Harris.
@JohnA @dee_le_brun 70% is a generous score for a country where police regularly kill people of colour, there are school massacres on an average of every 23 days, Roe v Wade was overturned, there is no universal health care and an insurrection tried to lynch the VP! 🤔 Good to be an optimist though.
@RustyFreewheel @dee_le_brun Well, if you're interested in hearing more of my views on foreign policy - including that of the US - here's a past video I did : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yt-p9Xhjk1c

@dee_le_brun Stan is just another fuckwit

@dee_le_brun

"Lacking a serious moral vision"?? Whar the bloody hell is Grant on about?

Harris isn't perfect—nobody can be. And sure, she doesn't get a pass mark just because she isn't Trump. But bloody hell! She is so far ahead of Trump in terms of morals, intelligence, compassion, empathy, street-smarts, economic understanding, political savvy, foreign engagement, etc. ... she earned her A+, while Trump stays firmly at F.

Or does he mean she didn't hit all of his personal wants? You know, the ones irrelevant to the USA?

You can NOT discuss "moral vision" without utterly dismissing Trump and nearly all Republicans.

@dee_le_brun It really makes one ask whether Stan Grant is suggesting that we vote for Trump because Harris isn't good enough. It'd be fun to see him squirm on that one, but ... yeah nah, Stan mate, this is just not as erudite as you think it is.

We should not let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

@PaulWay You can't vote for Harris just because she's not Trump, but you can vote for Trump because he's ... Stan is an idiot ... He's a reflexive neo-liberal, who probably doesn't know that he's even expressing an ideology.
@dee_le_brun Same as what he had published in The Monthly.
