Though honestly, that seems to be the default in most attacks. It's just something media and populists focus less on. Fear sells. Solidarity less so, it seems.
No. Solidarity sells and can be made clickbaity. The problem is that the media prefer to disseminate fascist point of views, because they are fascists.
Things would be much easier uf people came around to recognize the situation as such. This especially includes journalists who themselves strive to do the right thing, but fail to acknowledge that their employers are controlled by fascist venture capitalists.

I disagree. While we have shitty media like Springer, that's not the general situation. Also not how the dynamic works.
Stuff gets reported by media, especially public-law and local ones, but also the major publishers. That's also how you know about the three mothers stopping the attacker.
But society and politicians have a strong "could this happen to me" filter. Which is very human. This determines what gets press conferences and web traffic.
@RefurioAnachro @GinevraCat @jwildeboer
I think this is one dynamic at play here. And I think that's one of the reasons why there's much less echo to femicides. Or to violent crime in asylum seeker housing.
The other aspect is "Can I blame someone". That's imho the reason why people killed by traffic or by folks with mental health problems receive much less attention. And also why there's an uptick in reactions if the perpetrator is from a group that's easy to other.
@RefurioAnachro @GinevraCat @jwildeboer
As for "solidarity sells". This year Germany got a new naturalisation law. It's a really big deal. Children born in Germany get German citicenship. Dual nationality without restrictions. Naturalisation deadlines were reduced from 8 to 5 years (or even 3 under some circumstances).
On mastodon, every fart an asshole politician does gets echoed and commented. But there was almost complete silence on this German milestone.

"Can I blame someone"
I agree that that is easy to concoct and sells just as well, but it's absolutely not the only game in town. That the media focusses on this is entirely on them. They want it, they are giving fascism room, because that's what they are!
They should have done that in France. They would have gotten citizenship, the ordre Le merit, a Selfie with macron and a fresh baguette.
To get the Bundesverdienstkreuz in germany, you need to rescue people from knive attacs not once, but repeated Times. Or you can be a politicion for some decades, but then you need citizenship.
@jwildeboer Statt das ausdrücklich zu würdigen und den Zusammenhalt in der Gesellschaft zu bekräftigen, holt Steinmeier seinen Rassismus raus:
https://www.tagesschau.de/inland/gesellschaft/anschlag-solingen-104.html
@jwildeboer And it's the usual pattern. Perpetrators are framed as the Other. Because "we" could never do anything bad, could we. When racism works they use racism. When everything else fails, it's mental health stigma.
Even though statistically mentally ill people are more likely to become victims. But not more likely to become perpetrators.
Unless the attacker is a PoC, there's not much national interest. Perhaps if multiple strangers are killed by the attacker.
@jwildeboer
Thank you for sharing this. It is indeed newsworthy for a number of reasons. MSM is very quick to jump on any crime where a muslim is the perpetrator. Moreover this was women who stopped an attack. Phenomenally brave 🩷
"Wenn ich mitkriege, dass das Bürgerinnen und Bürger mit Migrationshintergrund waren, ich finde, das kann ja auch ein bisschen stolz machen", sagte Nordrhein-Westfalens Innenminister Reul. "Diese Gesellschaft ist viel stärker, als wir glauben."
