Never forget what they’ve taken from you
@FlockOfCats I miss printing things on fanfics paper and not having to worry about keeping the pages in the correct order.
@FlockOfCats So satisfying to tear them off...
@FlockOfCats gosh I want to do one now

@FlockOfCats I thought at first this was a gum wrapper chain made with the inner white paper wrapper.

Yet another hint I am old.

@FlockOfCats This is everything!!! That sound, those holes, that fold. Thanks for the good times old friend.

@FlockOfCats In German, those folded things are called "Hexentreppen", witch stairs
@FlockOfCats the continuous feed paper has run out long ago, but I still use the box to store stuff and remember the old days
@FlockOfCats i still make them sometimes, you know, just with little bits of paper. they're never very long and it's never the same but. still.
@moonrabbit @FlockOfCats I still make them with the long paper sleeves that protect drinking straws. 😊
@FlockOfCats 😭😭
😭😭
😭
😭
@FlockOfCats oh my gosh. This was me. When I saw the pic, I could feel my hands ready to fold 🀣
@FlockOfCats I don't miss the noise though. Or the low printing speed.

@LordCaramac @FlockOfCats

I remember waiting MINUTES just for that 9-pin NLQ @ 144 DPI

Now even laptops are higher res.

@RL_Dane @FlockOfCats The only pin matrix printer I ever owned was a 24-pin one. With colour! Everything but black started looking rather dirty very soon though.

@LordCaramac @FlockOfCats

The high-pin-count ones were amazing, but often had mechanical problems from what I heard.

@RL_Dane @FlockOfCats I never had any serious mechanical problems with my Citizen Swift 24 with the colour option installed. After many years in service I eventually replaced it with some Epson inkjet printer which produced excellent prints but was prone to paper jams.

@FlockOfCats

Yes, I used to make those accordion strips from the edge perforations of DEC writer print outs all the time.

And half my books in my library have edge perforation as book marks.

@FlockOfCats My grandfather would print many reams of documents and have these leftover for me and my brother to play with. We'd string them all over the house with scotch tape.

@elforesto @FlockOfCats

That's such a pure memory πŸ’—

@FlockOfCats Ugh, no. I still have nightmares from decades ago picking up boxes of fiscal reports and then having to burst them all so we could photocopy them for distribution. And heaven help you if one of those damn tracks got jammed during printing and you need to go back to Controllers and have them rerun the batch.
@FlockOfCats The word for it is "perfory". Never forget.
dot matrix, my beloved...

Attached: 1 image A few paperstrip-folding/knotting questions for no particular reason, sorry, I am having too much difficulty converting it to a poll…I did try πŸ™. How many of you 1. used to do this with printer edgings when they were available? 2. are thinking "I wish I'd done that...Bring back tractor feed!" 3. have never stopped, and now hoard backing from double-faced tape to get their folding fix? 4. will shred documents just for strips of paper? 5. have searched through craft stores to find ribbon with evenly spaced holes? 6. Have considered getting a crank pasta-maker to get cleaner edges? 7. will resort to scissors while grumbling about new-fangled technology? 8. still use their tractor-feed printer? 9. are staring at the screen thinking "Whaa?"

Mathstodon
@FlockOfCats @rc2014 I learned this via my mom but she used paper straw wrappers instead. Can still be done!
(the wrapper is paper, the straw can be made of anything)
@FlockOfCats I still use tractor paper! (I still use a dot matrix printer from 1994 because I can still get ink for it and it still works in modern linux and it doesn't throw a fit)

@FlockOfCats

Oh my God! I haven't thought of that... Whatever that is called... in SO many years!

I remember doing that to my tractor feed paper!!

@FlockOfCats I'm so confused, what's this bout?
@FlockOfCats I can feel and smell this image!

@FlockOfCats I forgot this. I miss this.

*fiddles with sweatshirt drawstring*

@FlockOfCats oh oh oh I had forgotten about doing that. The other best thing ever was ripping the pages apart with a metal ruler. Ziiiiiip zzzzziiiiiip pffzzzzpt. Ah good times
@FlockOfCats @gruik from a time where men were men, women were men, and children were men.
@FlockOfCats @willowashmaple we made a garland on our Christmas tree like this.
@FlockOfCats wow, that's a throwback I really had forgotten. This would be the next task after coloring in the letters on my custom made sign!

@FlockOfCats I do miss the sound that dot matrix printers make when printing.

And OMG the fun with PrintShop printing all sorts of nonsense.

@FlockOfCats One of my first jobs was bursting and separating. First you burst; then you separate.
@FlockOfCats transported back in time through this helix!
