Today I was reading my news… and I realized something disturbing.

USA Federal employees do not have #WomensHealthcare

When my kids were born, my family was on my spouses #NewYork #healthcare — but we switched to mine when SO changed jobs.

Back then, I was worried about having 0 days of paid leave as a fed.

Now I find out that lifesaving care — here in New York where #abortionrights are guaranteed — would have been undermined by lack of insurance.

Her Life Was at Risk. She Needed an Abortion. Insurance Refused To Pay. - KFF Health News

Insurance coverage for abortion care in the U.S. is a hodgepodge. Patients often don’t know when or if a procedure or abortion pills are covered, and the proliferation of abortion bans has exacerbated the confusion.

@atthenius I have her same insurance plan. As noted in the article, it did eventually pay the bill after a long fight. The plan claims to cover both miscarriage treatment and abortion for the life of the mother, etc. (https://www.fepblue.org/-/media/PDFs/Brochures/Standard-and-Basic-Option-brochure-2024.pdf) Is there any any insurance plan that covers elective abortions?

@Nonya_Bidniss

I am not sure.

I also have Blue Cross Blue Shield’s federal employee plan, FEP Blue.

I am definitely raising this with my union. (IFPTE GESTA Local 29.)

I am glad the woman in this story got her experience elevated to a national news story — how many families have been saddled with this kind of medical debt though ? (!!)

Why should some smelly pieces of 💩 who weren’t good enough to become doctors themselves have any say over my family’s healthcare

It’s seriously F’d up.

@Nonya_Bidniss

Everyone deserves quality health care. No doubt. ❤️
