#ElonMusk is posting information to portray both Mastodon and Instagram as child pornography sites.
These two social networks are X competitors, and Musk is using his own social network to misrepresent his competitors to 196 million followers.
Imagine if 196 million Volkswagen drivers received multiple messages on their car stereo from the CEO of Volkswagen that other car brands were "child porn car brands".
I doubt European competition laws would allow that.

@randahl Hate to say this but from my own eyes have seen only FB and Instagram with Twitter and X were and maybe still some of the worse places to find FRAUD and SCAMMERS over the last 7 years and have been part of investigation to CURTAIL some actions and WOULD NEVER GIVE any good reference to places who DO NOT STOP SOME OF THE WORSE ACTIONS AGAINST PEOPLE

It seems like in the book, Orwell’s totalitarian state grows out of the military-industrial complex Eisenhower warned about. it makes sense - that was a huge economic juggernaut post WWII.
I don’t think Orwell was prescient enough to understand the threat of Capitalism and the attention economy driving authoritarianism.

What we have now is a different beast. The ideological labels of communism / capitalism seem less important than staggering inequalities of wealth and new forms of media that fit in our pockets under complete control of oligarchs. Joseph Goebbels would have been envious.
@randahl @Dodo_sipping That is interesting 🤔 I’m having my own little experiment on Twitter/X. I made an account a few weeks ago without doing anything, no comments, not opening tweets, nothing. On the first day my inbox was filled with pornography and terrible video’s of children being hung 😳
I marked all this as “not relevant” and finally it’s gone.
@[email protected] @LiefhebberV Yesterday I too made a X/Twitter account to see what happens. I had to follow 1 other account and I chose the NOS (dutch news), I said NO to every option. I was greeted with a lot of porn, I labeled them as “not relevant” and it became less. I do not follow or comment, just watch what fills my screen. I see a lot of Trump-related tweets, some conspiracy, I also got a lot of gruesome video’s like kids being hung, woman being executed. It’s not like Mastodon.
There will come a point where this will fire back at him…

But no doubt the decentralized nature of the fediverse may allow some minor instances to operate using the Mastodon software.
I wonder how much child porn is manipulated using Photoshop, better go after Adobe and the digital camera manufacturers.

It also might be interseting to note that Andrea Stroppa, a relatively young Italian IT nerd is listed as co-owner of Twitter (currently by some called "X").
Stroppa was the one who tried to taint the then actual and former Twitter board members by digging out the few alledgedly not addressed child porn cases on Twitter in order to help Musk's litigation against Twitter about it's actual value when he tried to chicken out of his insane deal.

@randahl This all overlooks a pretty glaring difference between Twitter and Mastodon: Twitter is a service provider; Mastodon is a computer program that serves an internet protocol.
Him attacking Mastodon isn't going after a competitor for the very reason his attack makes zero fucking sense: Mastodon isn't even in the same market. What, should Apache be on the hook also? More CP on Apache probably.
The whole framing is all fucked up--don't even agree to the terms they're using.
