@mnutty well, the Lincoln Project is a bit late to the game. It only started in 2019, and the literal fascism in the GOP has been rising for decades, and their Congressional caucuses were quite unified in support of it that whole time, based on their legislative votes. The GOP firmly supported Trump during his first term. So I welcome the Lincoln Project, Liz Cheney, etc. as temporary allies, but I would never trust them to be in power again. I think all well-meaning "conservatives" need to do some real soul-searching to reflect on how they and their values led our nation to this point.
And I still haven't heard any definition or description of "conservatism" that reflects Republican policy of the last 50 years. In that time, they haven't been about personal freedom, fiscal responsibility, small government, or lowering taxes on anyone but the wealthy.
