Graphics is no longer a limitation for most games. Sure, some AAA titles push the limits, but in 99% of games, graphics don't make the game more fun.
I think gameplay and better character AI will make more of a difference in gamer enjoyment.
I think developers have been pushing high graphics, and it ruined a lot of games. If it's fun, it's fun. Super Mario wonder is amazing, looks fantastic, and doesn't need hyper realistic graphics.
