🇬🇧 #tdff2024 #tdf #railhistory Last stage today! Speaking about ends, we're passing the terminal station of the line from Jarrie to Bourg-d'Oisans (https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ligne_de_Jarrie_au_Bourg-d'Oisans). Opened in 1849 as metre gauge line by the VFD, passenger traffic was replaced by buses in 1946, operated to this day by the VFD.
The line remained open for freight longer, up to Vizille there was three-railed track, and normal-gauge trains ran here until 2009. Traces of the metre gauge can be seen today (see photo's 🇳🇱 ⬆️ )

#railhistory The whole valley is dotted with industry. Livet has an hydroelectric plant, built by the Keller-Leleux firms. A local has told me the façade of this powerplant is secondhand, from Lille train station, but I never found any mentions of this. Along the front of this power plant is some three-railed track, metre gauge and narrow gauge (possibly 500mm), the goal of which I don't know.
Keller, the industrial tycoon of the Romanche valley, built a magnificent home in #Livet, 5 floors, with two rooms that overlooked the valley and parts of his enterprise. The "Pavillon Keller" or "house on piles" has starred in movies (The original "Les Rivières Pourpres"), built in 1912 and enlarged with the rooms on pillars in 1930, it is a beautiful mix of construction styles.
It is a departemental monument of the #Isère
