@cstross we're still on X for RADIOSPARX & AUDIOSPARX but lately the news he's a massive Trump donor has made us feel sick. We're looking for a kinder, nicer social platform, and hope MASTODON is IT. Thanks for yr post, I'm UK-based, &I know from being rather media-saturated that MUSK is hated in the UK & EUROPE, but I don't have any verifiable facts to prove this :) Have followed you & I'm looking forward to yr posts. Cheers, Meryana. Check me out on LinkedIn here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/meryana-tamera/

Welcome to Mastodon. It looks like your off to a good start.

Keep in mind hashtags are everything here. Searching has improved making them less required but, they are encouraged. Helps with muting.

For example, I like #Music, especially #PinkFloyd. I have two #Cats and of course I follow the hashtag #caturday. I live in the #USA and I am #Retired from a career in #tech

Here you can also follow hashtags like you follow people! This is how things show-up in your feed.

@jchaven @cstross - fab advice, thanks so much. I really appreciate it. I had a personal Twitter account for 10 years with over 5K followers, then I shut it down, and breathed a sigh of relief. Have worked for RADIOSPARX-AUDIOSPARX for two years, and it's the best job. Check me out on LinkedIn if you want to know more about me. I'm UK-based but the corporate entity that is AS and RS is based in the US, with resellers all over the world. I'll follow your advice. I love #hashtags so all cool. MT

@radiosparx @jchaven Note that there's a DISTINCT cultural difference between the fediverse and X/itter; notably the fediverse is noncommercial and positively advertiser-hostile, and scattering LinkedIn and promo pieces for your employer in all your toots will get you on a lot of folks' blocklists really fast.

(It's where people go to get away from capitalism, is what I'm saying.)

@cstross Well, that just suits me fine, because I am NOT like that. It's the psychotic and pervasive nature of all social media to render us always in 'sell' mode, so it's great to know that this platform is not like that. However, we do want to promo our #musicians who need all the promo they can get. There's a big difference between promoting and selling, as I am sure you know. Promoting artists is what I love best about my job. The link to LinkedIn was just so people can make sure I'm real!

@cstross @radiosparx

Totally!

I think in this case I'd overlook it since this appears to be more a "commercial" account than a personal account.

I doubt I'll follow this account because I'm more interested in personal accounts.

@jchaven @cstross - I only have a work account because I would seriously 'end my life' if I had to have personal social media accounts on top of work ones. Living in the online world is NOT my thing, but I do feel passionately about giving our 8000 #musicians promotion, and i don't give a crap if you use AS or RS or not. Every one of our artists is on multiple platforms, such as Spotify, but for me is about showcasing their talent & it's useful for people to know I'm NOT some BOT but a person!
