Google asks every app to have a Privacy Policy to be accepted in the Play Store. So, xScreenSaver had to write a privacy policy.

Here you go:

just to clarify, I just shared the link, I am not the author.
@fla JWZ crowdsourced suggestions, many of us contributed.
@fla wow, that is a long list
@eibriel @fla last entry is a real banger.
@fla brilliant! ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ‘
"the most rapacious ... " That's a nice word :)

@fla

I very rarely read Privacy Policies

And when I do so I very rarely enjoy doing it.

So this was a nice change for once :-)

@fla you know what, I didn't know this app existed before now but suddenly I think my phone needs a screen saver. Nicely done. ๐Ÿ‘
@fla Would change bullet 5 to "Unlike Google, XScreenSaver will honor emailed requests to delete all of the user data we haven't collected."
@fla modern poetry โค๏ธ
@fla got me with the last one ๐Ÿ˜…

@fla Thatโ€™s beautiful.

And iโ€™m now the proud owner of an Xscreensaver animated background on my phone, ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

@fla subtle ๐Ÿ™‚ @jwz i like it!
@fla super on point. Might get you permanently banned from the Play Store. (Businesses donโ€™t like to be disparaged.) But clever.
@fla I thought #mojeek had the best privacy policy, but this one beats it!! ๐Ÿ’ช
Snipetteville

@fla Oh man, you almost got me on that last one.
@fla I don't know if people from google have even bothered to read it, otherwise they would have fired them by email haha ๐Ÿ˜‚
@fla FWIW, having a privacy policy is probably an EU legal requirement, part of GDPR. I have one written for my code that runs on hardware with neither networking nor storage. But, yeah, this instance was a good opportunity to have fun. Whether that's considered easy to understand and clearly written is left as an exercise to the reader (and to some privacy commissioner and their non-humorous non-American lawyers somewhere in Europe).
@fla.... Did I just get rick-rolled in 2024???๐Ÿ˜ฉ
@fla Now that's what I call malicious compliance.
@fla @jwz "For a screensaver. A privacy policy." That was some list :D
@fla I went for a simpler version for a stupid app I made but yeah this requirement is ridiculous

@fla it's beautiful. I don't know why, but I wasn't expecting it to be so long.
@fla @Longplay_Games
Great! ๐Ÿ‘
Hilarious!

@fla

I dunno about that last one

@fla This made my whole day - thanks for sharing

@fla w.r.t. the line:
Unlike Google, XScreenSaver will never tell you to put glue on pizza, eat rocks, or smoke while pregnant.

I think you might want to reconsider.
Screenshots of google saying these things could be quite funny and a good screensaver.

@fla
Unlike Google, I enjoyed reading this Privacy Policy too much. Unlike Google, now I'm dancing to Mr. Astley.
@fla amazing lmao
L google

@fla i heard they were working on something good.... shame theyve chosen to host there stuff on what appears to be amazon servers last i checked :(((

@ilumium

@fla the portal companion cube reference is the absolute cherry on top
@fla the internet has more questions now than answers.
@fla
Unlike Google, XScreenSaver will never be evil.
@fla love this. Suddenly feel the need for a screensaver app.
