@20002ist @briankrebs Darn it, I knew this would happen. πŸ˜‚
@anagnostes @20002ist @briankrebs - You're both wrong! Nano for lyfe!!!!
@tinker @anagnostes @20002ist @briankrebs 🌸 nano gang represent 🌸
@catsalad WRONG! I LIKE EMACS AND COFFEE ISN'T MY CUP OF TEA
@wyatt8740 @catsalad Uh, good, I don’t think you need more caffeine as it is?! πŸ˜…
@crowbriarhexe @catsalad irl i actually basically never drink caffeine
but yeah, I AM TOTALLY CALM RIGHT NOW
@wyatt8740 @catsalad I know!! I always back slowly away from calm people!
@catsalad @tinker @anagnostes @20002ist @briankrebs Which crazy assed emacs extensions roast and grind the beans first?

@catsalad - I have seen no greater meme or shitpost than this. You win the internet.

@anagnostes @20002ist @briankrebs

@catsalad @tinker @anagnostes @20002ist @briankrebs I don't like nano, but I vastly prefer hot chocolate over ~~bean water~~ coffee or ~~leaf water~~ tea.

@catsalad @tinker @[email protected] @20002ist @briankrebs

When I absolutely have to use a text-mode editor, I'd like to use one that I can actually use (...and escape from if necessary).

@catsalad I gotta take a course for Vi, haven't quite tried emacs yet...I didn't think this meme would relate to me, and yet here I am getting called out for preferring nano every time! XD
@catsalad @tinker @anagnostes @20002ist @briankrebs I switched to nano after using vi for almost 20 years
@anagnostes @catsalad @ben @20002ist @tinker @briankrebs how?! pico/nano is so unintuitive to use (for more than Windows notepad can do, anyway).

@mirabilos

Oh, Eris... Remove me from this conversation!!! Remove everyone else from this conversation!!!

This was a throwaway joke last summer!!!!

Gaaahhhhhd!!!! STAHP!!!!

@catsalad
There is this saying "A fool with a tool is still a fool"

I remember I had a discussion with a trainer once, he was like "I can show you things you can do with vi that nano can't do." and I was like "Well, that's great for vi. As long as I don't know how to do them, I still prefer nano, because there I know how to do stuff."

(I agree that at least for sysadmins it is important to know how to open, edit and save a file with vi, nano and maybe emacs because you never know what kind of tools you have available to you. But bulk search-and-replace operations? Use your personal preferred workflow for stuff like that and stick to it.)

@briankrebs @tinker @catsalad @anagnostes @20002ist jupp users only drink coffee at home or where it’s reeeeally good (like Haferkater) and aren’t averse to an occasional tea or Γ§ay. They avoid Starbucks like a plague, it’s disgusting. ed(1) is the standard text editor.

I've got good jokes for each, and I was thrown at vi decades ago and just had to survive that trial by fire.

But if you like the others, that's cool, and you do you. My scar tissue says I like vi.

@catsalad @tinker @anagnostes @20002ist @briankrebs
I know vim pretty well. I get it out in certain cases where I need its power.

Otherwise I wrap up in a comfy and soft blanket and use comfy and soft nano.

vim is the Hole Hawg of editors.

Zero Sugar Monsters and opening a root terminal to summon the config file via leafpad for editing
@catsalad Personally, I refuse to use a terminal-based editor unless absolutely necessary, and use a real IDE like VS Code instead. If I *have* to use something in a terminal (i.e. a terminal over SSH and it's too small of a change to be worth copying files over the network or fiddling with X11 forwarding), I prefer nano because it's already installed almost everywhere, and it shows hints on screen for the keyboard shortcuts (instead of hiding functionality behind absurd keyboard sequences you have to memorize).
@catsalad @tinker @anagnostes @20002ist @briankrebs It was good enough to compose messages in Pine. Which I still use.
@catsalad @tinker @anagnostes @20002ist @briankrebs yesss!!!!!!!! 🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈

Drinking coffee while hating it?
It does sound like a vim user to be fair πŸ€”

(Nano user here)

@catsalad @tinker @20002ist @briankrebs

And those who use sed would be ... <thinking> ... Vodka drinkers, definitely vodka drinkers.

@catsalad @tinker @anagnostes @20002ist @briankrebs I feel like the use of nano is less "user too dumb to understand" and more "user is just sick of a text editor being complicated when all they want to do is edit plain text."

Just wait until people find out about Tilde...
