Anybody knows a source comparing Berd Spokes Wheels with Pi-Rope Wheels pros and cons? Like hooked flanges vs. holes for Berd, screw in for Pi-Rope, Dyneema (Creep) vs. Vectran, nipple fastening solution, repairability etc.? Like - if you consider a fiber spoke wheel - which tech is superior and/or simply currently offers a potentially nicer / faster / more durable (bikepacking) wheel set?

Now someone does. Me. 😅 I found a page doing just that. And lo and behold, it's from 3 days ago. so finally someone compared and compiled the pros and cons of Berd Spokes vs Pi-Rope:

In short: from the technical specs of the fibers themselves as well as from the long term durability of rim as well as hub connection Pi-Rope comes out top. Also from the weight per spoke. So basically the only disadvantage (and this can be severe depending on your needs) is that you need proprietary hubs as well as rims. Rims need special and wider drilled and re-inforced holes. It also means: should you need to re-tension the wheel, tire + rim tape have to come off. Then again ...

@mastobikes

... different to the infamous creeping Berd Spokes you probably won't need to re-tension your Pi-Rope wheels other in case of a mechanical.
Since I always found the Duke rims interesting and there are several Duke rims (as well as from Beast Components etc.) available for Pi-Rope builds I could very much live with the special rim interface.

On an unrelated side-note: As I today searched in google via the term "Berd spokes vs Pi Rope" guess what also came up on page 1? Yes - my very Thread Post from mid of August this year which I just gave myself the answer to. That is nice.
The same post by me on Mastodon at least also showed up - on page 2 of the search results.

@mastobikes So in light of my recent find of the GooSynn TiFi Spoke and their current 2 wheelsets they sell:

We now have currently 3 textile fiber spoke techs and brands:

Berd: Dyneema Spokes. Needing special flanged hubs or carefully widened and rounded holes of normal hubs, subject to stretching and requiring recentering/tensioning

PiRope: Vectran Spokes. Needing special hubs and also special rims with wider holes.

GooSynn: Aramid Spokes, can be used just like Carbon Spokes can be used.

@mastobikes I wonder what Nextie have been cooking as they have mentions of Ti-Fi Polymer Spokes on their site, too. Not sure whether they hint at GooSynn w/o mentioning their brand name or whether that's a fourth independent spoke.

@tfrank_de @mastobikes Interesting to read. Usually I am 1 generation behind, just bought some ultra wide rims with traditional carbon spokes, nice upgrade to steel and 21c rims :)
