Mathieu Gotteland#Sudan (#SAF) bombs South Sudanese town, kills 2
The town of Khortumbak is situated in the #UpperNile state of #SouthSudan, close to the Sudanese border.
The bombing happens as the #RSF has taken control of of vast majority of #Sennar state (except for Sennar city) and is engaged in an offensive towards the West, East and South, including #BlueNile and #WhiteNile states.
At the Northeast corner of #SouthSudan, #UpperNile state borders #SouthKordofan (under #SPLMN control), #WhiteNile, #Sennar and #BlueNile states.
The war in neighbouring #Sudan has always been a major threat to regional and especially South Sudanese security. Independent since 2011, #SouthSudan is still a very fragile state and highly dependent on its Northern neighbour.
One of these dependencies concerns #oil exports, which account for 90% of revenues. The country has been expected to cease these exports, given the resulting income is no longer sufficient to pay salaries.
Both #Sudan and #SouthSudan have accused the #RSF of allying with South Sudanese rebels and opposition, including General Buay (#SSPM) and VP Machar (#SPLMIO). The RSF have used South Sudan as a supply route and hired South Sudanese mercenaries.
#SouthSudan has attempted to enforce its neutrality by seizing vehicles looted in #Sudan and disarming #SAF units fleeing from #WestKordofan, to no avail. The SAF has responded by targeting South Sudanese nationals, arresting and deporting them - at best.
