Graphic content: using mind mapping in class

In my mind, there are three great ways to use mind maps in the classroom: 1) mastering a lot of new information in an intro class; 2) going beyond rote learning; or 3) planning an essay, paper, project, or complex assignment, especially in a group

@theADHDAcademic do you think this can help bottom up learners group their ideas and build to broader points as well as helping top down learners realize how to handle complexity in their positions?
@Elizabeth3 If the educator guides the students in those directions, absolutely.
@theADHDAcademic I’m teaching a social movements class in the fall. Seems like concept mapping could allow students to make better arguments and collaborate better. Plus it could help cut through some of the emotions to get to the academic discussions. Thoughts?
@Elizabeth3 Definitely. You could have them create concept maps individually and then, depending on class size, have them create a larger one on white boards or poster paper working in small groups or as a class. It could be something they add to and refine as they learn new topics.
@theADHDAcademic is there concept mapping software?
@Elizabeth3 I think Canva has some templates. There's also miro, which I think has an educational license but I'm not sure. I honestly just have them use Google slides or something really basic.
@theADHDAcademic thank you! I’m going to give it a whirl
