My #RPGaDay2024 thread starts here!

01 First RPG bought this year?

I bought a whole stack of games in the "TTRPG Bundle for Trans Youth"! I've already played and enjoyed #WoolOfBat by @byethanharvey and #AChristmasBelonging by DannyPlaysRPGs and read a few more games from the collection. There's some great stuff in there! You can't buy it anymore, but you can still check out all the games here: https://itch.io/b/2262/ttrpg-bundle-for-trans-youth

02 RPG played most recently?

I played a session of #BehindTheMagic by @randylubin (in German). I was a shirking elven ranger who mainly survived by "being at the ready" outside of the battle. He ended up as a kind of hair resin influencer. (Imagine Legolas, but entirely without the "...and my bow" attitude.)

Our pacing wasn't great, though, so we had to skip the second act. Next time we definitely need to cut scenes much earlier! Still, lots of fun, as always!

03 RPG played most often?

For my all-time gaming, #BrindlewoodBay still is the game I've played or run most often (but only once this year).

This year, #OurTravelingHome ranks first. Everything else has been only 1-3 sessions, except for #GegenDasMonster / #AgainstTheMonster, which I played a lot while it was crowdfunding earlier this year.

04 - RPG with great art?

#ThirstySwordLesbians and #YazebasBedAndBreakfast for their celebratory portrayal of non-white and fat characters in particular and for picking the perfect art styles to match each game's themes.

#MaNishtana for art that evokes the historical period and location as well as the religious inspiration (it's a Passover retelling).

Extra love to all non-professional illustrators sticking to their own abilities instead of using generated "art"!

05 - RPG with great writing?

#GoodSociety might be the best-explained and most well-structured game I have ever read (especially at that length). Its great layout add to that.

#OurHaunt is best at not just explaining rules but also at demonstrating play culture. It just makes you feel accepted and supported all-around!

#BluebeardsBride is excellent at creating the desired vibe of the game and the GM role. So wonderfully creepily-complicit-making!

06 - Easy to use?

I can't think of any game that is easier to use and to learn than #ForTheQueen and most other #DescendedFromTheQueen games (including #VivaLaQueerBar and #AgainstTheMonster ). Draw cards, answer questions, magic happens!

Beyond GM-less games, I still think #BrindlewoodBay offers great support for both the GM and the players.

07 - RPG with 'good form'?

Choosing to interpret this as 'good format.'

I like my TTRPG books on the smaller side (max. B5 or similar) and my PDFs with a detailed clickable table of contents at the side, image descriptions, and clickable internal references. Please don't make me scroll so much!

Also appreciate more experimental formats (foldout maps, interesting shapes, bits to fiddle with) but rarely get to enjoy them in play because I only play online.

08 - RPG accessory I like?

A good character keeper in Google Sheets goes a long way for me. Especially if it's not only functional but also nice to look at and if it works well on smaller screens, too.

I also like my paper notebook (A5, spiral-bound, nice paper with dot grid) a lot!

09 - RPG accessory I'd like to see?

A way to see and search all of my PDFs at a glance, with their cover art and relevant tags (system family/central mechanics, player number, required materials, keywords for content) that automagically tags all the PDFs I already have.

And whatever tool will help me overcome my executive dysfunction and enables me to easily choose and schedule games to run!

And a time zone equalizer so I can play more often with folks far away!

10 - RPG I'd like to see on TV?

I want a Les Violettes Dangereuses story from Thirsty Sword Lesbians as an Arcane-style TV series.

I want Velvet Glove, Dream Apart, and my own Miss Bernburg's Finishing School for Young Ladies as a live-action TV show (perhaps limited series).

And I often want to see specific game sessions/series I've played as a movie afterwards, just so I can watch the story again with even better graphics than those in my head.

11 - RPG that works well for one-shots?

This is where I go full-on self-promotion and list lots of my own games!
- Against the Monster
- Bunny, We Bought A Dungeon
- Dolly, We Bought A Dream House
- ImproVeto
- Magical Pets
- Rodents With Guitars
- The Lovecraft Boat
- Viva la QueerBar

And to add some not written by me:
- Midnight At The Oasis
- Sapphic Slumber Party
- For the Queen (and all Descended from the Queen games)
- Lasers & Feelings (and all hacks of it)
