Just updated to #LineageOS 21

I spent a bit of time making sure everything was backed up via DecSync CC, Syncthing and Seedvault as it was a bit out of date and I've never done a major update on it before (... I've been putting it off).

Turns it all went smoothly and all of my data was retained 👌

Sync contacts, calendars and tasks without a server using DecSync

Soooo yesterday I noticed that I wasn't receiving text messages anymore on #LineageOS 21. Every time a message would come in (I was using my bank's SMS OTP to test) my messaging app crashed. Found some bug reports and workarounds but none of them worked, neither updating.

Not good, not good.

I thought about it for a while, did some searching and settled on installing #GrapheneOS. So far, so good for receiving messages.

A bunch of things about #GrapheneOS are weird though.

It doesn't come with F-Droid by default, you have to manually install it.

It doesn't come with Google Play, but they go out of their way to make it easy to install.

They have a massive hard on for Chromium and recommend not using any Firefox-based browser like Mull for privacy/security reasons. But search suggestions are default enabled in their home brew browser Vanadium so anything you type in the address bar goes to DuckDuckGo.

I'll be back on LineageOS or another AOSP distro eventually
