So if I were to consider a move off Apple hardware… although I am quite invested now… and would wish to carry on with #OpenBSD as my main system… what hardware would come closest to a bucely built Macbook Pro? So great screens, good battery, well built… Would prefer a decent amount of RAM. Preferably should “just work” with BSD. Any recommendations?

@requiem Are you running #OpenBSD on #AppleSilicon hardware currently? I still use Intel-based Apple hardware with OpenBSD and it works very well. Otherwise, I know ThinkPads are loved by many OpenBSD developers and users and I believe that, depending on the configuration, there are nice display & battery options.

I'd certainly suggest looking at some of the devices @jcs has tested OpenBSD on: https://jcs.org/openbsd-laptops. I believe he's currently dailying the ThinkPad X1 Nano.

OpenBSD on Laptops

@requiem I know @jcs tested an earlier Framework laptop and I think a few developers have picked up the new AMD Framework 16 (incl. the GPU expansion), but I don't know how far they've gotten in testing at this point.

@requiem I personally have been eyeing laptops & tablets with AMD Ryzen 68XX (680M iGPU) and 78XX/88XX (780M iGPU), including: Minisforum V3, GPD Win Max 2, Asus ROG Flow X13 (they make a model sans nVidia GPU, but it's only had limited availability in the US; plus, Asus/ROG doesn't have a great reputation), ThinkPad T480 (with a bunch of upgrades), amongst others.

No funds available for anything on my end for a while, so am also watching this space to see others' suggestions/experiences.

@requiem Oh, and the Lenovo Legion Go.
@requiem I'm _very_ interested in testing the new VAAPI support in #OpenBSD -current's #Xenocara (#X11) and various packages (which I think are starting to land in snapshots package repos at this point. That _should_ help with overall battery life on laptops when playing video.
