The Star Sail corporation has a showcase pavilion- a corporate showcase for education, promotion and development. Half of it is full of demonstrations and displays, perfect for a school group or casual visitor. The other half is development. And all of it is promotion.

SuperCity24 - Day 21 - Location 3-7 City Center

Heath University is my Mini Area for this week. A place where things seem to stay the same and seem to change, and at the same time. The school was built by the textile barons of the past and in recent years, Star Sail Inc. has been sponsoring a lot of new building.

Tomorrow is the start of area 4, the most out-of-place for my PC, J-Box K.

SuperCity24 - Area 3: City Center

These seven cards represent the center of Heathberg, CA, a fictional city for a future soloRPG session.

The City Center is where commerce, government, education come together. This small city is full of contrasting ideas, stories on what it is.

This 3rd area is one the game PC feels less comfortable in. This following week it will be an even less inviting place.

For this last full week of the SuperCity24 challenge there is only one area left, one of Power and Privilege. This an area that the hero is least comfortable in.

SuperCity24 - Area 4/4

This area of HeathBurg is the one the pc is least comfortable in, one of wealth and power.

Construction company Wollf inc. provided this public art piece. It's modern, dramatic, but also hard and cold. There is always a security guard making sure 'vagrants' don't ruin this park of concrete and metal.

I imagine 'tron' neon colors, maybe blue.

Warm and inviting it is not.

SuperCity24 - Location 4.3 - Area 4/4

The prompt was 'connection to another location/different area' so we have a retail store for high-tech fabric manufacturer Star Sail Inc. This is part of one of the those exclusive malls that has really cool stuff, but also can feel sterile and flat. The crepe stand sells a cheese only crepe for $18 us.

A walled community of McMansions. A place where everyone drives a golf cart around and there is golf, tennis, swimming and of bar with food. This is for the wealthy who are not rich enough for their own compound (see 4.1). It probably was advertised as having 'small town charm'.

Skyhill's secure, private spaces where the residence can avoid 80+% of the population. Walled homes, cool/fancy stores, and possibly a way to shield oneself in a cloak of respectability.

1/2 Thoughts on SuperCity24

This is the 2nd year that I did an art challenge in Jan to worldbuild for a solo RPG game.

In 2023 I had a 8.5" x 5.5" sketchbook and did fairly elaborate drawings. I included possible characters and history. It was really fun to use in my game session, but the sketchbook was too heavy to lug around (w/ a journal as well), and looking up details the father along the game went was a challenge.

2/2 Thoughts on SuperCity24

This year, 2024 I drew the size of a trading card (2.5" x 3.5") on watercolor paper from Diaso in SF. Drawn in Micron pen and tinted with watercolor.

These drawings weight a lot less then 2023's sketchbook (1 oz vs 11 oz) so should be easier to lug around, but have a lot less details. Using the cards in a game should be 'seeds' to develop the world through solo RPG play.

Setting up my big 2024 Solo RPG game, SuperCity 24. This is using my homebrew tables/rules mixed with FU: Freeform Universal.

FU is a narrative system using tags and dice pool of d6's. Not super nuanced and complex, but easy to learn and use.

My character is a 'magic born construct (jukebox)' who is new to the world and yearns, not to cliches 'be a real boy'.

For Chapter 1 of my solo RPG game, Supercity24, I set it up to be 'short and sweet'.
Kirk a.k.a J-Box K is helping his dad at the History Center. A villain appears who will escape in 3 scenes. Establishing 3 new characters who can return in longer chapters: a superhero, a cop and a villain.

- Random location starting place.

-- Rolled to see who triggers the plot hook...Jace the chef gets a call that his mother is getting evicted and traffic is backed up, so J-Box volunteers to carry them to the location....It's not going well.

GOAL: 'close to home' - help someone you know get somewhere in 6 scenes
- made the mistake of playing out racing-to-get to the destination scene-by-scene when it should have been one action scene.
- I did not play last week since I was stuck; a new roll fixed that.
- Ending with J-Box K being worn out and getting arrested will make chapter 3 interesting.

- playing just a
'chapter' requires just one challenge which is easier to track, but lacks the exploration and nuance of a longer game.

- Estimating how long to set a tracker in a solo game can be hit-or-miss.

- I like using the Drama Points, but it definitely makes your brain work differently then other game systems.

SuperCity24 solo RPG: ch 3 finds J-Box K in jail.
- His one phone call is to a family friend he hopes will get a message to his parents.
- A rigid detective can't accept that he is neither a robot or someone in armor.
- A mysterious lawyer knows a lot about him and will help... for a promise.
- A hypnotized officer tries to kill him.

This will be a multi-focused chapter, longer then the first two.

- allowed to return home, get's caught sneaking in with 'two left feet.' Family is relieved since they could not helped him without revealing secret identity.

GOAL: 'trapped' Find a way out of jail, deal w/ results
- J-Box thrown in jail for minor charge which is a problem since he does not exist (birth certificate, etc)
- Mysterious lawyer Cassandra Raven will bail J-Box K out for a price.
- Quick visit with his family finds his amature witch mother doesn't like Ms. Raven.
- Must deliver another magic born resident to safety.

Chapter 4 of my solo rpg game begins.

The set-up: J-Box K is incognito with a regular from his mother's music venue at a special event at Star Sail inc's 'pavilion.' The town's biggest business is revealing new tech with an out-of-town superhero celebrity being featured. There should be superheroes & villains in attendance as well as all sorts of shady players.

I only had a few pages till the end of my sketchbook, so this is just an interlude.

- Kurt (i.e. J-Box K) walks at night to the mysterious private club
- Ms. Lu's son meets with a pair of twins and gives a cryptic message to J-Box

- a sudden rainstorm leads him to overhear the scientist from ch 4 who has been fired

SuperCity24 solo RPG - Starting journal two. (1/6)

Time to continue my game in a new game journal.
On page one I start with my PC (player character) drawn with them introducing themself. In this case the PC is a magic-born would-be superhero, J-Box K.
I make corrections to some of the details (his name is Kurt (not Kirk)) and add new details like unnamed grandparent (who might come visit in a chapter).
