Pentagon Data Shows High Suicide Rates Among Troops Exposed to Blasts

A military report on suicide rates broken down by occupation finds the highest rates among categories of troops that often work and train around weapons blasts.

The New York Times

#Troops whose jobs expose them repeatedly to #blasts have the highest #suicide rates, per a new #DOD report.

The report lists the suicide rates for each #military occupational specialty 2011-2022.

Explosive ordinance disposal teams, who disable roadside #bombs & train & work around very large blasts, had the highest suicide rate — 34.77 deaths per 100k people per year — followed by #infantry & special ops forces; armor crews; & artillery troops; whose rates are closer to 30 deaths per 100k.

@Nonilex Fortunately not a huge difference between suicide rates for EOD and combat troops & artillery. 1 extra suicide per 25,000.
Given the exposure to explosions, I expected a higher increase.
