So what hashtags (if any) do you follow in fediverse?
@catsalad Good list! I also follow #Linux and #DFIR
@hal_pomeranz Nice! I added #DFIR, but #Linux is a little too spammy for me. Plus I follow many of those projects directly
@catsalad I don’t follow hashtags; I follow people. Hashtags can be hijacked. I prefer character over topics.

@wendynather They can for sure! I've finally wrangled my home feed to exclude most bots and companies (I have lists for those), but still have to Mute for Home constantly.

Maybe I should just skip them too... I mean, I already follow 3k with more than enough content. 🤔

@catsalad I have no idea how you keep up. I keep my follow count low because I try to read EVERYTHING
@catsalad mostly the cat ones too numerous to list
Also
#ttrpg and various subgroups of this
#woodworking
#reggae
#devops
#SilentSunday
#waterfall

@catsalad I cleaned out a few topical ones that don't seem to be having recent activity, like xzbackdoor. Currently following:

#3goodthings
#dnd
#dnd5e
#moosetodon
#dosgaming
#mastodonfc
#KQL
#openbsd
#BlackMastodonAllies
#blackmastodon
#threatintel

Thanks for asking! Going to watch this thread for some others to pick up.

@catsalad How to find your list of followed hashtags? Oddly, it's in the kebab menu on your profile.

@peterdrake In the web interface? I just looked but have no idea.

In the FediLab app I use, there's a tab that lists followed hashtags.

@catsalad
#CatsOfMastodon mainly: it turns every other post in my timeline into a cat photo, which is great!
My instance doesn't really do that. Some ideas on how if I ever write the software for it...
@catsalad I'm following #SIEM #Sentinel #ThreatIntel for the blue team toots but they're fairly low volume.

@catsalad A few different categories of stuff (I’ll refrain from hashing the tags so as not to pollute):

jokey stuff: “hashtaggames”, “mastodonisntfullofoldpeople”, “depluraliseafilm” (forgot about that last one)

i’m-still-unemployed stuff: “fedihired”, “hiring”

monsterdon: “monsterdon”

and other stuff: “politicaltech”, “blackfriday”, and “logseq” (the last of which is notetaking software I use)

@catsalad the only hashtag I follow is #knitting.

I probably should follow more.

@catsalad
This is probably unhelpful, but as a moderator, I follow a bunch of hashtags you probably don't want to, beyond #FediBlock: all the slurs, all the dogwhistles, all the code-words, all the hot-button issues that we respond to fights about, and a lot of "internal" stuff.

A suggestion I DON'T see in your list?

#FediTips

Everyone should follow that. I learn new stuff all the time.

@catsalad I don't actually follow any these days. I used to follow, and post to the 'today' hashtag but I gave that up a while ago.
